Aaron Jones

October 2019

Aaron Jones' practice surrounds ideas of personal character building as well as the relationships that one may have with objects and places. Dominantly working with collage as a medium, he employs multiple forms of mark making, photography, and printmaking to build characters and spaces relating to surreal personal experiences. Jones touches on family, masculinity and diasporic narratives through this cathartic and ritualistic practice of deconstructing and rebuilding. Recent and forthcoming exhibitions include: Oakville Galleries, Contact Gallery, Toronto, Mercer Union, The MOEG, Art Gallery of Guelph, Toronto Photo Works, YYZ Artist Outlet.

Vanessa Maltese

October 2013

For the inaugural exhibition, Vanessa Maltese has created a new work in response to the existing automotive signage, a hallmark of the transitioning industrial neighbourhood. Maltese applies her stencil-like motifs overtop the pre-existing auto body signage, as a "quick-fix", band-aid style solution which highlights the temporal nature of the project.

Vanessa Maltese was born in 1988. Currently based in Toronto, she holds a BFA from OCAD University. She is the recipient of the Drawing and Painting Medal from OCAD U in 2010 and was winner of the 2012 RBC Painting Compe

November 2014

The publishing of any book establishes a landscape as each copy seeds itself in the world. Each book finds a new home, a new reader, gets lined up on a shelf. Every bookshelf can also be read a portrait of-sorts of the person who assembled it: an individual imagined through the residue of their reading; an individual imagined in the gaps between.

Derek Sullivan's project for Portrait & Landscape is four compositions made of books taken from his bookshelf, of different subjects that happened to reside in the same place. These have been scanned, layered, arranged, enlarged, obscured and flattened into new forms.

Derek Sullivan (b.1976) is a Toronto-based artist. Exhibitions in 2013 include solo projects at Galerie Emmanuel Hervé (Paris) and the Agnes Etherington Art Centre (Kingston); and group exhibitions at Kunsthalle Wien (Vienna), City Art Centre (Edinburgh), and Galerie Tatjana Pieters (Ghent). His project Albatross Omnibus The Power Plant (Toronto) was the gallery's 2011 commission; and he was short-listed for the Sobey Art Award in 2012.
